Drill Strategy used in the Arabic language textbook for Form Three in Malaysia

Abstract

There is no doubt that the strategies used in the teaching process provide advantages to students by facilitating the understanding process, making teaching activities more organized to be implemented within an appropriate period, and being completed in fun ways. These effective teaching strategies are among the essential things that teachers should have in the field of teaching, to overcome obstacles and to solve problems faced by students in learning Arabic language. Among the teaching strategies is the drill strategy (word repetition) in teaching Arabic. This study aims to analyse the use of drill strategy in the Arabic textbook for Form Three Secondary Schools according to the Standard Secondary School Curriculum (KSSM), Ministry of Education Malaysia: a descriptive and analytical study. The researchers will conduct an analysis of the use of drill strategy (word repetition) in the textbook by focusing on each title unit which covers language units: words, structures, complete sentences, and paragraphs. The words studied will be used repeatedly in these language units to improve language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. This study is based on two approaches: descriptive and analytical methods and used textbook as the main study material. The results showed that the drill strategy (word repetition) allows students to increase and remember Arabic vocabulary and allows them to use words in sentences according to specific topics and situations.
